The Election Commission of India has unveiled a next-generation results management system that will allow constituency-level vote counts to be transmitted and displayed in real-time from the moment counting begins.
Under the current system, returning officers manually enter tallies as rounds are completed, with an average lag of 30-90 minutes between counting events and public visibility. The new system, built on a secure government cloud platform, will reduce this to under two minutes.
The Technology
EVMs will be connected to a dedicated secured transmission system during counting, with each data packet cryptographically signed to prevent tampering. A public-facing dashboard will show live constituency maps, party-wise leads, and real-time seat projections. The system will debut in the Uttar Pradesh assembly elections scheduled for December 2026.
