The BJP-led Mahayuti alliance won all six assembly constituencies that went to by-elections in Maharashtra this week, dealing a significant blow to the opposition Maha Vikas Aghadi coalition.
The results, declared on Friday, showed victory margins ranging from 8,000 to over 24,000 votes, suggesting the alliance’s consolidation following last November’s decisive general assembly victory remains intact.
What the Results Mean
Political analysts say the by-election results eliminate any residual ambiguity about whether the Mahayuti’s 2024 mandate was an anomaly. Chief Minister Fadnavis called it a “reaffirmation of the development agenda.” Congress and Shiv Sena-UBT immediately blamed internal coordination failures rather than voter rejection.
