US and Iran Reach Framework Agreement on Nuclear Programme After Geneva Talks

Senior negotiators confirmed a preliminary framework after four days of intensive talks, with a full deal expected within 60 days.

US and Iran Reach Framework Agreement on Nuclear Programme After Geneva Talks

The United States and Iran have agreed on a preliminary framework to limit Tehran’s nuclear programme in exchange for phased sanctions relief, according to senior officials from both delegations at the conclusion of talks in Geneva.

The framework, which still requires approval from both governments, would cap Iranian uranium enrichment at 5% purity and allow enhanced IAEA monitoring at all declared facilities in exchange for releasing approximately $14 billion in frozen Iranian assets.

Regional Reactions

Israel expressed “serious reservations” and said it would study the text carefully before responding. Saudi Arabia and the UAE issued cautious welcomes. Russia and China, which participated as observers, both endorsed the framework.
