India’s GST collections surged to ₹2.37 lakh crore in April 2026, shattering the previous record and signalling strong economic momentum heading into the new financial year.
The Finance Ministry attributed the performance to three factors: higher consumer spending during the Navratri and summer seasons, improved e-invoicing compliance, and a broadened tax base following reforms in the real estate and gaming sectors.

Maharashtra led state collections at ₹34,200 crore, followed by Karnataka at ₹18,900 crore and Gujarat at ₹17,400 crore. Eight northeastern states recorded their highest-ever monthly collections.
Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said the figures “validate the strength of India’s formalising economy.”
