Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced in a late-night televised address that Kyiv accepts a Turkish and Emirati-brokered proposal for a 30-day ceasefire along the current line of control, effective from May 1.
The proposal does not require Ukraine to formally recognise Russian-controlled territories, a red line Kyiv has consistently maintained. Instead, it frames the ceasefire as a humanitarian pause ahead of comprehensive peace negotiations.
“Ukraine wants peace. But peace must be just, and it must be lasting. We accept this proposal in good faith. Now the world watches Moscow.” — President Zelensky
Russia’s foreign ministry acknowledged receipt of the proposal but had not responded by press time. Western governments, including the United States and EU member states, strongly endorsed Zelensky’s acceptance.
