India will send its largest-ever group of athletes to international qualifier competitions for the Brisbane 2028 Olympics, with 412 sportspersons confirmed across 24 disciplines in a sign of the country’s deepening sports infrastructure investment.
The Sports Authority of India confirmed the selections at a ceremony in New Delhi, noting that India has qualified for events — including artistic gymnastics and modern pentathlon — in which it has never previously had representation at the Olympics.

The athletes are supported through the Target Olympic Podium Scheme, which has a budget of ₹4,200 crore for the Brisbane cycle — more than three times the allocation for Tokyo. The government has also established dedicated high-performance centres in 18 sports through partnerships with international federations.
